During the start of the sprint race Paul moved up to 17th from 20th. On lap 3 Paul dropped to 18th. On lap 7 after laps behind the safety car due to Pepe stopping, a red flag was called because conditions were bad. The race was stopped after 8 laps because conditions were not safe to go back racing.
Paul managed to keep the lead at the start of the feature race but an early safety car neutralised the race. During the restart Paul kept the lead but another safety car came out on lap 4. At the second restart Paul still kept the lead keeping Hadjar at bay. On lap 8 Paul moved to 2nd as Hadjar took the lead. Paul pitted on lap 9 for his mandatory pit stop and came out in 16th. On lap 11 Paul overtook Hadjar for 8th which at the time was the net race lead. On lap 13 Hadjar took 8th place back but Paul remained in DRS range. Lap 16 Paul moves up to 5th due to others serving their mandatory pit stops. On lap 18 Paul moved to 3rd place. On the last lap Paul had an issue with the engine and slowed down dropping down to 16th. It was a really disappointing situation after he did so well and I just hope Hitech get their act together over the summer break.

A massive well done to the team to come back and finish 5th in class after their Q3 session was ruined by another car. They did well move up the order from 44th to 32nd and at some stage were in contention for a podium finish. Also a massive well done to Tom Kalender who stepped in as the 3rd driver this weekend. An incredible job from the team to secure another class podium. Gaining a lot of positions at the start of the race put them in good contention for the podium. The team worked very hard and for quite a bit of the 3 hour race they were leading their class. This result has jumped them up to 3rd in the Gold Cup standings. Super duper proud and congrats to the the entire team 🥳🤍

Lando (2nd in the standings) :
Qualifying: 5th but starts 4th due to Verstappen’s grid penalty

Positions: -2
Oscar (4th in the standings):
Qualifying: 6th but starts 5th due to Verstappen’s grid penalty
Grand Prix: 2 (18 points due to George’s disqualification)
Positions: +2
Mclaren had a tale of two halves with Oscar finishing 3rd and Lando finishing in 6th. Lando cost himself a better finish after a bad start that cost him so many positions whereas Oscar had a way better start and moved forward. Andrea said that overtaking was harder than expected and Lando said that the undercut was the better strategy and powerful and that with hindsight it would have been better to do that.
Lewis (6th in the standings):
Qualifying : 4th but starts 3rd due to Verstappen’s grid penalty
Grand Prix: 1st (25 points due to George’s disqualification)
Positions: +2
George (7th in the standings) :
Qualifying: 7th but starts 6th due to Verstappen’s grid penalty
Grand Prix: Disqualified due to the car being underweight
Positions: N/A
Mercedes did an incredible job to finish in a 1-2 when they had a disastrous few days especially in qualifying. It’s good to see that the team has been getting podiums consistently and it’s a good thing to carry over into the summer break. George made a good call to gamble on the one stop and it paid off. However, George got disqualified due to the car being underweight so Lewis inherited the win which was rightfully deserved since the team messed up his race by calling him in to the pits when he still had good tyres. It’s unfortunate for George but rules are rules.

When the pit window came along Phil pitted and swapped with Ezequiel who came out of the pits 32nd (10th in class).

During the start only one place was lost dropping them down to 12th (9th in class) but on lap 3 they moved into 10th (7th in class) due to one of the Mclarens getting tagged and spinning. Lap 4 they dropped to 11th (8th in class) as they were overtaken by a Ferrari. Lap 7 they dropped down to 13th but then on Lap 12 moved into 12th after one of the Tresoor Audi’s pitted. On Lap 16 they moved up to 7th (4th in class) due to other cars pitting for the mandatory pit stop.
On lap 17 they pitted for their mandatory pit stop with Ezequiel swapping with Phil who came out of the pits in 9th (7th in class). On lap 18 they moved up to 7th (6th in class) due to other cars pitting.
At the Chequred flag the car dropped to 11th at the very last corner but then moved up to 10th due to a car ahead getting a 5 second time penalty.

Lando (2nd in the standings) :
Qualifying: Pole
Grand Prix: 2 (18 points)
Positions: -1
Oscar (5th in the standings):
Qualifying: 2nd
Grand Prix: 1 (25 points)
Positions: +1
Mclaren did well to finish 1st and 2nd. Oscar deserved his first win, he did so well the entire race despite Lando making it difficult by not following team orders right away and being difficult. Although that being said McLaren should have pitted Oscar first to avoid this entire situation because there was no need to pull a stunt like that. Lando needs to learn to be a team player because countless times Oscar has let him through on team orders and the attitude he showed should not be tolerated. Overall the team need to do better to manage both drivers because something like this cannot happen again.
Lewis (6th in the standings):
Qualifying : 5th
Grand Prix: 3rd (15 points)
Positions: +2
George (8th in the standings) :
Qualifying: 17th
Grand Prix: 8th (4 points +1 for fastest lap)
Positions: +7
Mercedes did well to help George recover from his shocking qualifying session to finish 8th and score valuable points. Lewis did well to charge up the field and score his 200th career podium and add to the consistent good run of form that Mercedes have had. However, the team’s strategy when it comes to pit timing needs to be looked at because Lewis was just about holding off Max even though he was struggling on his tyres.

On lap 10 Dino attempted to take the lead but he caught the curb and dropped down to 3rd but still within DRS range. He ended the race in 3rd place securing valuable points for his championship.
On the first lap of the feature race Dino moved from 12th to 9th. He remained there stuck in a DRS train but on lap 14 he lost 9th place to Goethe.
On lap 22 a safety car was deployed so the race ended under the safety car so Dino finished the race in 10th.

During the start Paul dropped down to 15th from 10th due to those on soft tyres having better grip from the get go while those on the hard which includes Paul have to play a waiting game.
At lap 9 the hard tyre has become the faster tyre compared to the softs.
On lap 12 Paul moved down to 15th place. He was stuck at the end of a DRS train On lap 18 Paul moved up to 14th due to Kimi pitting.
On lap 20 Paul moved up to 13th and on lap 21 moved up to 12th then 11th due to Durksen pitting. Lap 23 Paul moved up to 10th and on lap 24 he moved up to 8th, into points positions then on lap 25 he moved up to 7th where he ended the race.
However post race penalties saw Vershcoor get disqualified for a technical infringement meaning that Paul ended the race in 6th.
Paul had a very poor start tumbling down to 7th on the opening lap after having a huge lock-up. Then on lap 7 he had contact with Maloney and spun effectively ending his race.

Oscar (5th in the standings):
Qualifying: 5th

Mclaren messed up Oscar’s race when they left him out for an extra lap instead of double stacking him with Lando. He was in contentions for a podium but that was ruined by a poor strategy call by McLaren. They made another mistake by letting Lando go onto the soft tyres instead of the mediums leaving him vulnerable to Max and costing him P2. McLaren need to get their strategy calls together and their pits stops together because it’s these small things that are costing them wins.
Lewis (8th in the standings):

After an incredibly run and start to the weekend George had to retire due to an issue with the water system. He did so well the entire weekend and it’s extremely disappointing that he had to retire at his home race. Lewis had an incredible weekend starting the race in P2 and going on to win his first race in a long while at his home Grand Prix. Incredible work from everyone involved.

In race one it was a decent start from Wang who managed to keep the car in one piece during the start although they did drop down 4 positions. Ralf came out of the pits 23rd and 8th in class. With 15 minutes left till the end an other safety car was deployed and it returned to the pits with 7 minutes to go. They ended up finishing the race in 20th overall (9th in class) unfortunately due to the multiple stops in the race they couldn’t progress further up the grid.
In race 2 it was a good start from Ralf who managed to move up to 12th on the first lap. The safety car was then deployed on lap 3 due to two Audis going off in the gravel. On lap 8 the race resumed and Ralf managed to hold onto 12th place during the restart before handing the car over to Wang when the pit stop window opened. Wang came out of the pits in 17th place (11th in class).
On lap 13 the safety car was deployed again and Wang moved up to 13th (8th in class). The safety car came in on lap 16 with just under 14 minutes left. On lap 17 an incident occurred which caused Wang to tumble down all the way to 27th (12 in class) A FCY was then called after another car went off track with 9 minutes to go. The safety car was then deployed with only 90 seconds to go and the race finished behind the safety car so the car finished in 24th (10th in class)

Mclaren were incredibly strong during the sprint race with both drivers having a go at max and also battling each other. They didn’t have the pace to take the win from max but it’s promising to see that they could both take the fight to him.
Well the Grand Prix was chaotic. Lando and Max fighting from the start but then a very careless moves from Max caused both drivers to collide and Lando retired from the race. If I am honest the way those two were going at it they were bound to collide. Oscar did well to capitalise on an opportunity to get another podium and managed to finish in second place.

Mercedes struggled during the sprint race with George losing 4th at the start but getting it back a while later. Lewis remained 6th the entire race. Both cars clearly struggled for pace given the big gap between them and Max.
Mercedes first win was achieved by George this weekend as he capitalised on Lando and Max colliding. The team did will to give him a good car this weekend. Lewis had a tougher race from getting a 5 sec penalty and the team telling him to give back a position even though race control didn’t issue anything. He still managed to finish in 4th despite carrying damage from earlier in the week which hindered his pace.

Lewis finally gets his first podium of the season after driving incredibly well and executing his strategy well. George had an incredible start of the race taking the lead and holding it for a while but it was just unfortunate that the team made the wrong call running the hard tyres for the last stint and struggled to keep up with the top 3. Mercedes seem to be working their way back up but it’s still a long season ahead and consistency is key.
